Defensive Shooting Series
The Intuitive Defensive® Shooting Program is an intuitive shooting program designed to help the student become more efficient with a defensive firearm in the context of a dynamic critical incident.
Intuitive: Something that works well with what the body already does naturally
Efficient: Effectively allows us to achieve our goal with the least amount of time, energy, and resources expended
Dynamic Critical Incident: Any sudden or surprising chaotic event that presents us with physical violence or the threat of physical violence.
Developed by personal defense author and teacher Rob Pincus, Intuitive Defensive® Shooting was developed over several decades. With the advent of the dash camera era of law enforcement and the availability of high quality security camera videos, Pincus noted a disparity between what was taught on the range and behavior during actual shootings. The good guys were improvising their responses, most inefficiently, when forced to suddenly defend themselves against violence. Their training had prepared them for the firing range, not a real fight. Marksmanship and drills had been studied and taught for years but excessive marksmanship and reactions taught by drills in a gunfight can result in slow, inappropriate actions which can get you killed. There are some central drills in IDS, but no dogma. If a technique works then it has value but it must work 100% of the time. Technique is only 1/3 of the performance equation. Performance is the summation of your ability to process what's happening, figure out what you have to do, and proficiently execute the technique.
IDS is as much a philosophy as it is a training system. It is based on decades of constantly evolving information about how the body works and what really happens during dynamic critical incidents and has been heavily influenced by the diverse group of instructors that are certified to teach it and the thousands of students who have been through courses all around the world. The program features a variety of specialty drills and training methods that the student will be able to utilize in their own practice after the course in order to continue to develop their abilities.
IDS is not designed to make you the best shooter out on the range, rather its goal is to help you quickly develop fundamental skills that you can apply in a worst case scenario defensive shooting situation.
